Short Bio:
Amber Rachelle is a jazz vocalist whose career started when she moved to New Orleans in 2016 at the age of nineteen. Since then, she steadily worked her way up from busking on the streets of the French Quarter to playing multiple venues and festivals across the city. She holds weekly residencies at both The Spotted Cat and The Jazz Playhouse and annually plays French Quarter Fest and Jazz Fest under her own name. In 2021 Amber founded her most recent project, Amber Rachelle & The Sweet Potatoes, who began as a swing band but have since expanded their repertoire to embrace a variety of jazz sub-genres, including blues, jump, and New Orleans R&B. This is reflected on their most recent album, “Pipin’ Hot!,” which gets regular spins on WWOZ. The Sweet Potatoes are a highly versatile band that are equally at home turning a nightclub into a dance floor as they are delivering an intimate listening-room set. Amber is a passionate advocate for the continuation of jazz as a living, breathing art form and strives to ignite passion for the genre among younger audiences.
Long Bio:
Amber Rachelle & The Sweet Potatoes breathe new life into jazz while remaining focused on preserving its historical significance. Emerging as a swing band, they now play a variety of jazz sub-genres including blues, jump, and New Orleans R&B. The Sweet Potatoes are a highly versatile band that are equally at home turning a nightclub into a dance floor as they are delivering an intimate listening-room set. The band features Amber’s powerhouse vocals with horn‑driven melodies and a rhythm section that swings hard.
Their debut album, “Too Sweet” (2023), spotlighted their swing focus, distinguishing them within the New Orleans scene and earning two rave reviews in The Syncopated Times. That same year, the band was invited to perform at the New Orleans Jazz Museum and French Quarter Festival. On their second album, “Pipin’ Hot!” (2024), produced by Justin Armstrong at Marigny Studios, the group leans into jump blues and early R&B while keeping the dance floor in mind. “Pipin’ Hot!” receives regular spins on WWOZ and has been streamed by listeners around the world.
The full band consists of trumpet, saxophone, trombone, piano, upright bass, drums, and of course Amber’s vocals. They have local residencies at both The Spotted Cat and The Jazz Playhouse and annually play French Quarter Fest and New Orleans Jazz Fest. They are quickly turning into a household name in New Orleans and are working towards an album of original releases. The band is now expanding outside of New Orleans to share their music with the world in a hope to ignite a passion for the genre among younger audiences.

Press Quotes:
“Rachelle exhibits tremendous dynamism, from bluesy to peppy, showcasing all those impressive jazz‑vocalist skills like octave jumps to pitch bends.” — Dave Doyle, The Syncopated Times
They all may be still in their 20’s! That said, there is nothing juvenile about this band. They are in the thick of it, playing multiple times a week in a city that sweats music, and promise to be on the scene for decades to come".” — Joe Bebco, The Syncopated Times
